God

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1 KJV

An earthly father spoke these words to his 3-year-old son. ’Son the top of the stove is very hot, even when it doesn't look hot’. ’Don’t go near it, it will burn you and hurt you badly.’

The child’s mother had hidden a box of cookies in the cabinet above the stove. She was unaware that her son had seen her put them there. The father and the son were sitting at the table when his wife called from the bedroom to help her with the baby. His son remained at the table.

Less than a minute later the father hears his son cry out. The father ran to the kitchen and saw his son had moved a chair to the stove and had tried to get the cookies. His son had burned the bottom of his foot and suffered a first-degree burn.

Was the father angry with his son? No, he was saddened that his son hadn’t obeyed his words. He loved his son and wanted to keep him safe. Did he punish his son for disobeying his words? The son had prescribed his own punishment for defying the words of his father.

Our father in heaven has spoken his words in the Bible. God wants his sons and daughters to be happy, joyful and safe by obeying his word. Oftentimes people break the word of God and suffer punishment for their own actions. These same people claim God is punishing me for disobeying him. God like any earthly father loves his children and wants to keep them safe. The punishment is self-administered.

God rained fire and brimstone against Sodom and Gomorrah for their evil. I believe God could repeat this punishment with any nation today; however, history has demonstrated that nations that have left God’s word have self-destructed.
